Going green is not just about recycling your cardboard and using energy saving light bulbs. While these changes will of course help you to lessen your own individual carbon footprint, they are only the tip of the ice berg in terms of what you are capable of doing. Even those who have the biggest interest in going green however would probably argue that running for president is rather a big step. However there are many other ways you can get yourself involved politically and start making differences that will change the environment and the way that society treats it. Join a Political Party: You can become a member of a political party without having to play too big a part in it, and that will then allow you to represent a party whose views you share, and to help steer the course of their policies. Join Protests: There are plenty of peaceful green protests and demonstrations out there, and this is a great way to feel like you’re really involved in getting the world to go green. This is certainly a way to get your hands dirty, but it will require a few days or even weeks out of your schedule. Of course you could always stage your own.
Read: This is perhaps one of the most important things you can do when going green – stay up to date with the news and read about the science and technology of going green. Going green is not as as simple as ‘switching to renewable energy sources’ or ‘stopping the destruction of rainforests’. All of these issues are very multifaceted and every action has a reaction. Resources need to be harvested from somewhere, and financial and technological limitations currently prevent any transition from being entirely smooth. Only by reading heavily around the subject and knowing all of the arguments can you take an informed stance on the various issues surrounding going green.
Spread the Word: The importance of information truly can not be understated – so then make sure you are not the only person who has access to this knowledge and be sure to share what you learn with anyone and everyone who will listen.
